GETheatre Intern Call for GETIndia 2014
GETheatre is currently looking for qualified teaching artist interns to help facilitate our new partnership with TEACH FOR INDIA (TFI) in Pune, India this January 2014. Programs run for two weeks and involve facilitating a group of 20 – 25 students through dramatic activities towards devising a performance. The students write and perform their own work based on their life experiences and dreams. In addition, we mentor and train local teachers during the course of the workshop so that they can continue to implement these techniques in their own classrooms. The workshops are highly structured and disciplined, teaching participants valuable skills in verbal and written communication, as well as offering them an opportunity for creative exploration.
Interns can expect to act as assistant teaching artists: work independently with small groups of students, work one-on-one with students to improve writing skills, type up scripts, run errands, and offer their enthusiasm to learn and jump in where ever help is needed. This is an incredible opportunity to gain practical experience working in a developing nation, while utilizing theatre to explore identity, facilitate English literacy, and develop cross-cultural connections.
Cost – $6000 (airfare, housing, transportation, administrative fee) GETheatre is unable to provide any stipends or financial assistance at this time, however we are happy to work with schools to provide academic credit.
Dr. Jennifer Holmes, our lead teaching artist holds a PhD in Educational Theatre from New York University.
Dates: GETIndia 2014 will run from January 2 – 18, 2014.
Application: If you are interested in this unique opportunity to work with GETheatre in Pune, please send a 500-word statement explaining why you would be a good candidate, your CV, and a 20-minute activity that you would be interested in facilitating for this population to maya@getheatre.org by October 16th.
